Is this secure?

We know the first question that comes to your mind is whether this service is really secure or not. The short answer is yes. The long answer is of course, nothing is 100% secure against someone with unlimited computing power. However if you have a strong enough username and password combination, then your notes are virtually unhackable.

Does this mean you can read my personal notes?

No! It is not possible for anyone, including us, to read your notes unless you give them your password. So make sure you don't give your password to anyone.

Do you encrypt my notes?

Of course we do! Every page of note you enter is encrypted with your password and decrypted using the same password. We do not store your password on our servers (only the MD5 hash for comparision). Everytime you view your notes, the data is decrypted on the fly and displayed. Everytime you save your notes, the data is encrypted using your password and stored on our server. So even if someone has access to our full database, there is virtually no way they can decrypt any notes without your password.

We have also obtained a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate and all traffic related to your account is conducted over SSL. You should see a 'Lock' icon in the status bar of your browser when you log in or create a new account. You may click the lock icon for more information about the SSL certificate. This security model is similar to the websites that request credit card information over the Internet.

So should I start saving my credit card numbers on ChimeNote?

NO! NEVER! ChimeNote is a freeware service to let you store simple bits of information that aren't very crucial. Please do NOT store any personal information like Credit Card numbers, Social Security numbers, Drivers' License IDs etc. on ChimeNote.com.
